One of the questions on the African continent is the question of language in Literature. What language to use? Do writers choose a language that is not their mother / father tongue? Do they fit in with the languages that others brought to the continent, for instance Arabic or Afrikaner?
Helen Aisha Ward decided to write in Hausa, the language that is used by millions of people in West Africa. Not to all these Hausa speakers is this language their first language. For centuries this language has been a very important language.
Helen now teaches Hausa to people in Britain who want to learn the language and she writes books in this language.
