The use of what language is still an important issue. When you write in the English language you have a good chance to get a wide readership. When you write in a small language for instance Kikuyu your readership is limited. This has not hinder the Kenyan writer Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o who has decided to write in his mother tongue.
He wrote the short story “Ituĩka Rĩa Mũrũngarũ: Kana Kĩrĩa Gĩtũmaga Andũ Mathiĩ Marũngiĩ”. He did his own translation into English. His publisher decided to involve many translators to work in minor (?) languages on the continent Africa.
