Everyone says Achebe is father of African literature, except Soyinka

Many would agree with the statement that Chinua Achebe is the father of African literature. We could refer to his many important books. We could refer to his role in the African Writers Series.

But his fellow Nigerian Wole Soyinka begs to disagree with that elevated position of Chinua Achebe. It is not his intention to sit on the throne himself, but he is aware of an enormous legacy of so many writers and storytellers in so many different cultures and ages. The view of Soyinka is wider and more historical than the view of most others in tackling the question on who is the father.
