what is in a list?

The English bard wondered what is in a name?

Others wonder what is in a list?

You make a list, but your neighbour would make a completely different list. So what is the function of a list? Is it just to comfort your ego and exhibit your peculiarities?  I do not know.

What I do know is that on a website about Kenyan books, the writer of a blog announced his top ten Kenyan books of all times.

Just agree or disagree!

You wonder what a Kenyan book is?
Written by an author with the Kenyan nationality?
Published by a Kenyan publishing house?
A book written about Kenya?

I enjoy reading about Africa. New books. Old books. By African writers. By non-African writers. Novel. History. Travel. Biographies. Autobiographies. Politics. Colonialism. Poetry.

  1. Our bookstores stock mostly American & British books with a sprinkling of local authors, but we seldom get books from other African countries. South Africa has a very small book-buying public. Our population is approx 49 million and I think there are less than 1 million leisure book buyers. Poor education & illiteracy partly to blame; ditto economic hardship. Etc. etc. welcome to the Third World!

    1. At times I do find some African writers in our stores, even Deon Meyer. Chimamanda Adichie from Nigeria is an other one. Are European writers more en vogue in your bookshops?
